Torsvik Waste-to-Energy Plant

In two different process, waste is turned into energy.

Since 2006, we make energy out of waste in Torsvik Waste-to-Energy Plant. From about 160 000 tons waste/year (20 tons/hour), we produce heating and electricity to about 17 000 houses, with an efficiency of well above 90%.

The flue gas is taken care of and cleaned in a complex semi-dry process containing a hose filter and a scrubber, and is then condensed to take care of even more heat.

Step by step through the plant

Waste is incinerated in the combined heat and power plant.

  • The combustion takes place in the steam boiler. The heat is transferred to water in tubes within the boiler.
  • The water boils and turns into steam, which is overheated.
  • The steam spins the turbine and power is generated in the generator.
  • In the condenser, the steam is reverted into water, being cooled by district heating water.
  • The district heating water is heated and delivers the heat to the customers.
